FANS are in for a bit of a shock if they are expecting an album along the same lines as The Man Who or The Invisible Band.

Travis were never the happiest of bands on the block, what with tunes like Why Does It Always Rain On Me?, but 12 Memories shows even more of a darker side to the Travis boys, but in the nicest possible way.

Examples include songs like the superb hit Re-Offender, which is about being trapped in an abusive relationship, and Peace the F*** Out, an anti-war statement.

Travis could be described as being in the same sort of league as Coldplay - but Coldplay's music is markedly more melancholic while Travis' tunes do have a more uplifting feel to them, which is largely due to frontman Fran Healy's laid back vocals.

On first listen the album could be described as a touch on the bland side but soon turns into a grower.

12 Memories is a mature return for Travis, featuring poignant and thought provoking tracks which reflect on life, love and the universe.

And although the lyrics are more miserable this time around the melodies are just as memorable.
