ENERGETIC residents who saddled up for a worthwhile cause have raised a whopping £19,500.
Almost all of the money pledged by people who took part in the North Worcestershire Bikeathon, in aid of the Leukaemia Research Fund, has now been collected. "We are delighted with how much has been raised, despite fewer people taking part this year," said event organiser Nicole Harris.
The annual bikeathon took place in September with hundreds of townsfolk gearing up for a trek around the Hanbury countryside.
Top individual fundraiser Stephanie Sadler, who collected £626, received a new watch courtesy of Cupitt Jewellers in The Strand for her efforts. Simon Cupitt made the presentation last Saturday. "Every year Cupitt donate a prize for the top fundraiser, for which we are very grateful," added Nicole.
There were also prizes for the child, the family and the team which collected the most money.
