A BLOOMING good idea will have Bromsgrove springing into action next year.

The district council is preparing for spring 2004 by planting more than 90,000 mixed bulbs of daffodils and narcissus.

Head of community safety and engineering John Moody said: "This is the start of an on-going campaign to brighten up Bromsgrove and make it look attractive for everyone who lives in, works or visits the area.

"We are planting the bulbs along some of the primary routes in the district and next year new sites will be found and more bulbs planted. We hope to plant up to 100,000 bulbs."

Sites earmarked for some colour include Hanbury Turn, Slideslow and Fairfield islands and each side of the Birmingham Road, where it joins the eastern bypass.
