IF your New Year's resolution is to brush up on your creative skills, then a series of art classes being launched in Droitwich Spa could be just for you.

Professional artist Neill Lowdon is heading up three new classes at the Old Library, in Ombersley Street East, from January 12.

There will be a class on Monday afternoons from 2 until 4pm, aimed at adults wanting to experiment with materials and learn more about the history of art.

"This class could be for people who maybe have not picked up a paintbrush since school, or would like to set aside time to practise their hobby," he said.

On Tuesday, from 4.30 until 6.30pm, there will be a session for children from the age of eight up to GCSE and A-Level students. He plans to run it with his wife Lucy.

"I will be able to offer advice to students who are aiming to get into art college. Having been on a college admissions panel I know exactly what is expected of pupils," said the St Peter's Road resident.

A Thursday evening class will run from 7 until 9pm for business people looking to take up a creative hobby.

Pupils will also be encouraged to choose their materials, which includes pencil, pastels, oils and watercolours. However, Neil recommends students discuss with him before buying any materials.

He is a former teacher at Witton middle and Bromsgrove School and earlier this year successfully launched a scheme at Droitwich Spa Library, which invited townsfolk to exhibit a piece of artwork. That is now booked up until July.
