Kings Norton 13

Old Griffs 14

A missed conversion in the dying minutes by skipper Pete May handed the league points to Griffs in this encounter.

But although the scoreline may suggest a close game, the visitors dominated for large periods of this match.

Old Griffs took the lead after a blindside move from the base of the scrum and, in blustery conditions, the conversion was put over from the sideline.

It took this to awaken the home side and, straight from the kick-off, flanker Richard Revell broke and passed for John Hefford to score. Pete May couldn't kick the extra points and it was the Billesley outfit who finished the half leading 7-5.

Griffs should have put the game out of reach by the interval, only poor finishing giving Kings hope. Three scores went begging - the ball being dropped over the line after 20 minutes, a lost ball in the ruck inches from the line moments later before a forward pass meant the visitors did not punish a missed tackle.

The second half began with the strong wind behind Griffs and they ploughed on looking to add to the scoreline. They camped in the KN 22 for long periods of time and the eventual breakthrough came following some good support play in the backs.

Norton again hit back and May kicked three points to give the Hopwood team a glimmer of hope that they could yet steal the points.

From the restart, the ball was moved along the backline and a superb solo run from winger Hefford, which included a chip and catch in the Griffs' '22', took him over for a try.

However the resulting missed conversion whipped away from the target in the wind and the points went to Old Griffs.

Norton have a break from league action this weekend and need to find answers quickly to halt a repeat of this poor home display.
