DEAR EDITOR - As a pensioner I recently received a letter from the council stating it was currently looking at the bus pass scheme and would welcome my comments.
The scheme was started when the Labour Party was in power in Bromsgrove and was heading towards free transport for pensioners and a free car park pass.
When the Conservatives once more gained a majority, the scheme went into reverse and has become rather complicated.
The Conservatives had the effrontery to blame the Labour Government for the downgrading. The Conservatives recently gained control in Redditch and here too, have suggested downgrading their free transport scheme. It seems we have to move to Birmingham to gain free transport - yet another case of postcode lottery.
In Cllr Doyle's letter to your paper last week regarding the current disputes within the Bromsgrove Conservative Group, she confirmed my views when she stated that Conservative councillors were instructed to vote against bus passes for the elderly at a recent council meeting.
When the next election takes place, if you treasure your bus pass or car park permit, you know who NOT to vote for!
