THIS week saw the start of the Tuesday Starlets Veterans individual winter league which was held at Woodland View's Arles and High pools.

Making a good start to the series was Peter Taylor (Alvechurch) who pole fished red maggots to the island from Arles pool peg 34 to take six Bream and a few small Carp for a 27-0-0 total. Runner-up Maureen Cluley (Wales) had 22-10-0; third, Ken Giles (Alvechurch) 18-0-0.

On Wednesday the Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open saw Jason Evans (Astwood Bank AC) take a clear victory by pole fishing corn at peg seven for 52-9-0 of Carp. Second, Rob Francis (Spa MG), took 28-7-0 and third was John Baillon (Ovation Leisure) with 23-13-8.

Thursday saw the KH Veterans hold their Fur and Feather contest on Woodland View's Deans Pool. John Cole (Bewdley) won by waggler fishing casters and maggots at peg 45 to take a mixed 24-15-0 catch. Bob Treadwell (Holllywood) took 20-12-0 for second while third spot went to Dawn Putnam (Quinton) with 16-11-0.

Saturday's Woodland View's Deans pool open was topped by Simon Nickless (Cannock) with a waggler and corn catch of 45-3-0 from peg 38. Kevin Slade (Colmic) was a close second with 43-12-0; third, Chris Robson (Chicken Joe) 27-11-0.

The Broad Acres Top pool open saw Triplex members fill the top three places. Bromsgrove's Paul Webley took first place with a pole and red maggot catch of 33-4-0 from peg 17. Ricky Keenan was second with 21-13-0; third was Gary Kirkham's 19-14-0.

Round six of the Moorlands Farm winter league saw 13 teams of four competing on the Bank, Meadow and Moors pools. Dave Jordan (Lifestyle) took the top individual honours by ledgering corn at Meadow peg 54 for 42-4-0. Second was Lee Nutland's (Mosella South West) 37-4-0; third, Lee Richards (Top 4's), 36-12-0. Top 4's were the day's winners with 16 points; R & D 17; Lifestyle 23. Overall league leaders are Top 4's with 12 points; DGL 18; No Hopers 28.

Sunday's Moorlands Farm open saw Nutland (Mosella South West) in first place with 37-7-0 of Carp taken with pole and corn from Bank pool peg 21. Team mates Rodger Pharan had 26-9-0 and Chris Daley, 23-4-0.

Kings Norton AS started their individual winter league on the River Alne at Kinwarton near Alcester. Club secretary Alan Crowton began his campaign in style by pole fishing white maggots at peg one for a winning 12-15-0 of small Chub. Runner-up John Blakemore had 7-4-0 with third place going to Ron Allen with 4-0-0.

The Woodland View Dean's pool open was won by Paul Sibley (Shimano Portway) by waggler fishing corn at peg 47 to take 32-2-0 of Carp. Second, Kelly Howell (Dudley), had 21-0-0; third, Mick Dagnall (Sensas Midland Match), 14-10-0.

Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open saw Trevor Hodges (Reservoir Dogs) take a close verdict by pole fishing maggots at peg 22 for a 34-4-0 catch. Derek Clark (Astwood) was second with 33-2-0 while third went to Jim Smith (Manor AC), taking 22-9-8.

The Broad acres Main lake open went to Alcester matchman Harry Brotherton (Triplex) by pole fishing maggots in the margins of peg six for 22-6-8. Paul Webley (Triplex) followed with 17-9-8; third, Andy Trydnei (Triplex), 16-12-8.
