IN-FORM Ashley Giles (pictured) produced his best ever Test bowling figures for England against Sri Lanka.

The left-arm spinner, who lives in Droitwich Spa, took 8-133 in the First Test in Galle last week.

Giles, aged 30, took four wickets in each of Sri Lanka's innings. He also used the bat to good affect by reaching 17 not out in his country's second innings before the match ended in a draw with England one wicket from defeat.

Giles, nicknamed the King of Spain following a printing mix-up on commemorative mugs, is also expected to be fit for the Second Test, which starts in Kandy today (Wednesday).

The 30-year-old, who spent 105 minutes at the crease during his second innings stand, was isolated from the rest of the 17-man tour party earlier this week after developing a throat infection.

But that was played down by skipper Michael Vaughan as "optional resting" and Giles should play.
