A NEW block of 18 flats could be developed on an "historically significant" industrial site near Redditch town centre.

The flats, if given the green light, will be developed on the site of the old Prospect Works in Mill Street, off Clive Road, which contains old workshops and offices.

A report for councillors states the site is of historical significance but the main building is not attractive enough to list.

The developer, Owens, plans to convert the main mill building and construct a new block, which planning officers say will produce an attractive scheme.

The council has received four letters of objection from neighbours worried about increased traffic and noise, danger to pedestrians, parking problems and being overlooked.

A decision on the scheme was due to be made last night by councillors on the planning committee.
