THE victims of yesterday's A449 crash have been named by police.

They are Michael Jennings, aged 22, and Billy Hall, aged 19, both from Ombersley.

Mr Hall was driving the Ford Fiesta when it crashed into a tree on the A449 Worcester to Kidderminster dual carriageway near Hawford Wood, said a Worcester Police spokesman.

Meanwhile, Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff has spoken of his shock and sadness at the latest tragedy on the A449.

Now, in a parliamentary question, Mr Luff has demanded the publication of a timetable for the completion of safety work between the Claines roundabout and Ombersley.

The Highways Agency has introduced traffic calming measures and speed cameras north of Ombersley as far as the Mitre Oak pub and is now carrying out work at Hartlebury.

But Mr Luff believes more should now be done on the section south of Ombersley.

"North Claines Parish Council has regularly told me of its concerns about the southern section so I wrote to the Agency weeks ago, but I have still received no reply," he said.

"Yet more deaths on this killer road show how urgent it is to complete the programme of traffic calming and lowered speed limits."

Mr Luff said he hoped the parliamentary question will "reveal a plan capable of early implementation".

This section of road has now claimed the lives of four people in car crashes since January.
