A COUPLE in Worcester have set up a grotto at their home to raise funds for heart patients.

John and Clarice Knowles, of 46 Meadowbank Drive, St John's, originally opened the grotto last year for their grandchildren and neighbour's children but it proved so successful they have decided to do it again.

Mr Knowles, who underwent a triple heart bypass 18 months ago, said the aim is to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

"Last year we raised £160 and we expect to do better this year," said 63-year-old Mr Knowles.

"Last year it was basically family and friends but this year we have put leaflets out. Everybody is welcome and there is no fee, just donations."

Mrs Knowles, aged 59, said setting up the grotto began about two weeks ago and is a joint effort by them both.

"I do all the decorating and my husband comes in and puts up all the lights," she said.

The grotto, which is in the summer house in the garden, will be open from 4.30pm to 8pm on Sunday, December 14, and again at the same time on Sunday, December 21.
