INKBERROW could become a regular venue for jazz bands if a new project gets off the ground.

The first of what is hoped to be many gigs will be held in January when renowned UK saxophonist Alan Barnes will lead his quartet in The Bulls Head pub in the village.

The concert will be hosted by the new 'Inkberrow Jazz' project, set up by village businessman Roger Black.

He has a business next door to the pub and approached landlord Andrew Seward after seeing Alan Barnes in Birmingham.

Mr Black said: "I have been a jazz enthusiast for many years and always seem to have to travel miles to hear my kind of music.

"I heard Alan Barnes at the Birmingham Jazz Festival and decided it was about time to bring top-quality jazz to Inkberrow.

"Fortunately, the new management at my local took the same view and Alan was available to make it happen.

"I am thrilled to pieces and really looking forward to it."

In the past the Bulls Head has hosted numerous arts events, including drama, in its function room.

All surplus proceeds from January's gig will go to the Macmillan Cancer Relief charity, including those from a raffle of CDs from Alan Barnes' own record label Woodville Records.

Tickets for the first gig on January 15 are limited and cost £18 by sending a stamped addressed envelope to Inkberrow Jazz, c/o Blacks of Inkberrow, Carmichael House, The Green, Inkberrow, Worcestershire, WR7 4DZ.
