MOTORISTS faced frustrating rush-hour delays when a main road was closed after an accident - and the mayhem got even worse when there were two more collisions on alternate routes.

The first accident took place in Bromsgrove's Birmingham Road just outside the Jet garage at around 7am last Wednesday. It involved a red Rover 25 saloon and a blue Rover 418 saloon.

The driver of the blue Rover had to be cut out of his car by Bromsgrove firefighters and was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch with suspected spinal injuries.

The other motorist suffered slight injuries but did not require medical attention.

A large quantity of sand was used to absorb the petrol spillage and, after the two cars were recovered, the road was reopened at 9.20am.

However, commuters seeking an alternative route may have found themselves stuck in further delays.

Just over an hour after the first accident, there was another collision at the junction of Alcester Road and Spirehouse Lane in Burcot. This collision involved a Peugeot 106 and a Renault Clio, and while neither of the drivers was seriously injured, there was damage to their cars. At 8.55am there was a third accident on the A38, at its junction with Birmingham Road, near to the Mount School.

The crash involved a blue Ford Fiesta saloon, a silver Saab 9000 and a green Ford Fiesta LX.

The woman driving the Saab was taken to the Alexandra Hospital suffering from suspected back injuries. The woman driving the blue Fiesta suffered whiplash injuries but did not need to go to hospital. The A38 was closed until 10.20am while the vehicles were recovered and the road was made safe. Anyone with any information about any of the accidents is urged to call 08457 444 888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
