DEAR EDITOR - I think it is important for the people of Bromsgrove to hear an alternative version of events from that put out by disgruntled councillors.

When Cllr Nick Psirides was district council leader, he increased our council tax by an unacceptable 27.5 per cent. As a result, he was deposed.

He and his friends have never got over this public humiliation and have sought to cause trouble ever since, including voting against decisions agreed in consultation with the whole Conservative group.

These councillors now seek to justify their petulant actions by claiming that council decisions are made in secret by the leader and the cabinet, and yet they know full well that the new cabinet structure operated by the district council has been imposed upon all local authorities by the Government.

It is a very sad day that the sour grapes of these five councillors should have embarrassed the Conservative Party in Bromsgrove and distracted attention from the good news story for the Conservatives at national level following the election of Michael Howard as our new leader.
