Stourbridge 5

Alvechurch 3

ALVECHURCH'S joint boss Neil Bryan blasted his side's 'schoolboy errors' after their recent Midland Alliance revival came to a shuddering halt on Saturday.

The visitors conceded all Stourbridge's goals from set pieces - two freekicks and three corners - after making a bright start where they took the lead through the returning Keith Rostill after 10 minutes.

But Alvechurch, who are now perilously just four places off the bottom, found themselves 2-1 down by half-time with three more goals coming by the middle of the second half. Alvechurch, who despite the reverse were never outplayed, notched a second through Rostill before on loan Redditch United man Callum Gittings grabbed a late consolation.

"It was almost unthinkable for us to concede all their goals from setpieces," complained Bryan. "Schoolboy stuff really. The trouble was we challenged them all the way in open play but then went and made silly mistakes. When we took the lead, I thought to myself 'we can get a result here' and then we finish up conceding five goals!"

He added: "Things are not looking good for us at the moment in terms of our league position but, although it's always at the back of your mind, we've told the players not to think about it and remain positive. I think we're in a false position anyway. What we've got to do now is learn to finish the job off when we take a 1-0 lead."

Alvechurch will wait to see if Liam O'Shea has recovered from a dead leg in time for Saturday's home clash with fourth-placed Willenhall. Jamie McWilliams also has a knee injury with Greg Ellard, Jamie Fisher and Brett Fitzpatrick all expected to return after missing the Stourbridge defeat through work commitments.
