REDDITCH United manager Rod Brown revealed that he gave Matty Hall a right Reds roasting after he missed an early penalty in Devon.

United went on to to chalk up another convincing Dr Martens Western victory which put them five points clear at the top of the table but Brown revealed: "I told Matty that it was unacceptable that he missed it.

"He didn't even make the 'keeper move and we can't waste opportunities like that - particularly when we're playing away from home against a difficult crowd."

United won the penalty when Martin Myers was tripped on 12 minutes but Hall subsequently hit the spotkick against the foot of the post.

But the miss seemed to spur Brown's men to greater heights as they pushed forward and finally went in front on 68 minutes when sub Mark Shepherd headed home a Myers cross on 68 minutes.

Myers put the visitors 2-0 up a minute before full time with a superb left-footed shot that flew into the top corner to secure all the spoils.

Afterwards Brown was full of praise for the Reds' hearty band of followers who made their way down to Devon - the club's longest trip of the season.

"There were about 50 or 60 fans who followed us down there and they were fantastic," said Brown. "There is always a real partisan crowd at Taunton but our supporters urging us on really helped.

"After a difficult start, it was an excellent result for us. We worked exceptionally hard as a team and managed to restrict their chances only to set plays."

Redditch United's Callum Gittings and Paul Maynard have been called up to the Worcestershire squad to take on the London FA.

The associations clash in round three of the FA County Youth Challenge Cup at Dulwich Hamlet's Champion Hill Stadium on Saturday, November 29 (2pm).
