BRITAIN'S foremost choreographer Richard Alston brings his dance company to Malvern with a varied programme, including two newly-created dances.

The contemporary company, renowned for quality, creativity and adventurous entertaining styles of dance, performs to diverse music from composers Terry Riley, Scarlatti and Rameau.

Alston's new work for this autumn is Overdrive.

A spokesman explained: "Overdrive is powered by the relentless push of Californian composer Terry Riley's exciting Keyboard Studies.

"As the music creates ever more complicated layers of urgent rhythm, the dancers are hard pressed to keep up with the pace and euphoria.

"The result is wild, energetic and thrilling."

Choreographed by Alston's colleague, company dancer Martin Lawrence, Grey Allegro is driven by the power of Scarlatti's Sonatas for keyboard.

This is the first time the company has shown a work by another choreographer.

A spokesman said of the piece: "Taut and elegant, Grey Allegro matches musical lyricism with choreographic precision."

Brisk Singing, celebrating the music of Jean Philippe Rameau completes the programme.

The spokesman added: "Alston has created an uplifting work for his whole company carried along by the warmth and lightness of spirit in Rameau's music, some of the most joyous ever written for dance."

The Richard Alston Dance Company performs at the Forum Theatre on Thursday and Friday at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £9 and £11, (students £6) are available from 01684 892277 or online at www.malvern-theatres.co.uk
