A LINGERIE specialist has hit out at the organisers of this year's Victorian Fayre, who say her corsets are "inappropriate" for the event.

Chris Allen, owner of La Femme in The Trinity, said she could not believe the attitude of the fayre's city council organisers, who have snubbed her business at the four-day event.

She was further angered to discover her range of designer basques, boas and stockings, was not considered "unique" enough for the event.

"The reason I started up was to sell different, ultra-feminine lingerie you couldn't buy anywhere else in Worcester and I am gobsmacked by their attitude," she said.

"Two ladies from the council came in and told me the merchandise was inappropriate.

"They said they were looking for more 'craft-based' stands, but I've since found out people will be selling mobile phones on their stalls.

"I don't gain anything when the fayre is here because visitors are ushered along another route."

Ten clothing stands are currently booked in to the fayre, which runs from Thursday, November 27 to Sunday, 30.

Assistant tourism and marketing officer at the city council, Clare Collier, maintained the reason for turning Mrs Allen down was because her stock was not "unique" enough.

"I just feel that the brands she is selling you can buy in the High Street," she said.

"Admittedly, there will be a crossover, and some might try to sell things like mobile phones, but if we feel it's not in keeping with the Victorian Fayre, we will stop stallholders selling the items."
