AN UNEMPLOYED Droitwich man took a stainless steel bar to his ex-girlfriend's house because he believed he would be attacked, a court heard yesterday.

Paul Hudson, of Thatchers Green, admitted arriving at his girlfriend's home in Gorse Hill, Tolladine, Worcester, carrying an expandable 15-inch metal baton, Worcester Magistrates Court was told.

Hudson, who had just split up with his partner after a seven-year relationship, was "agitated and aggressive" and "enraged" when he went to the house on

Wednesday, February 19, the court heard.

In mitigation, Mark Sheward, defending, said Hudson had received threatening phone calls and police had warned his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend about his behaviour.

"He received a phone call from his ex-girlfriend and he was fearful he would be the subjected to violence. That's why he took the weapon with him," said Mr Sheward.

The 46-year-old was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £118 costs and fined £25 for breaching bail conditions. Magistrates also decided the baton must be destroyed.
