DETECTIVES have been given another 12 hours to question a 24-year-old man arrested in connection with the death of Herefordshire skydiver Stephen Hilder.

The man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a separate offence of criminal damage at 8am yesterday.

The 24-year-old, who was in Leeds at the time, was taken by Humberside police officers to Scunthorpe station. Police announced today that a superintendent's review had been carried out and a further 12 hours detention granted.

Stephen Hilder's family has been made aware of the latest development.

It is not the first arrest to be made in connection with the death of the 20-year-old Army cadet.

On WEdnesday, October 23 two 19-year-old men were arrested, but later released on police bail.

Stephen, from Stretton Sugwas, in Herefordshire, died during the National Championships of the British Collegiate Parachute Association at Hibaldstow airfield, on Friday, July 4.

His main chute and reserve cord had been cut deliberately.

Humberside police have been concentrating their investigations on the Leeds University skydiving team since the beginning of the month.

The Hibaldstow airfield is used as a base by the university parachutists, many of whom were there on the day Stephen Hilder died.
