LUCTONIANS used home advantage to steam-roller Old Laurentians 49-7 and book a place in the last eight of the Intermediate Powergen Rugby Cup.

Having already chalked up a 50-3 win against Laurentians in the league, Lucs were able to make some changes and still be confident of victory.

The visitors exerted early pressure but didn't look likely to score and within 12 minutes it was Lucs who took the lead in their first serious attack.

Hooker Gareth Miles rounded off a move to sprint clear to score under the posts. Will Parry adding the extra points.

Within five minutes the visitors were level when Lucs lost possession in midfield and presented winger Paul Willis with a clear run for a try which was converted by Denzil Evans.

Play became rather scrappy for a while before centre Greg Harwood burst through to score, Parry again converting.

The home side were now taking control and in the space of ten minutes number eight Dwaine Cadwallader, making his first start of the season, went over for two tries both of which were converted by Parry.

In a rare Laurentians attack on the stroke of half time only a superb double tackle by Harwood prevented a score and Lucs turned around at the half with a 28-7 lead.

Within a minute of the restart winger Ryan Henshaw went over after good work by Parry who again converted.

Lucs made several changes early in the half but still remained in control and further tries by winger Pat Garrod and a second by Harwood were both converted by Parry.

To their credit the visitors never gave up and for the last 15 minutes controlled possession within the Lucs' half but lacked the fire power to score.

The final score reflected Luctonians' superiority and provides them with a place in the last eight.
