MORE events in Droitwich to encourage youngsters to take an interest in The Royal British Legion look set to take place next year after a successful start to a recruitment campaign.

The Droitwich Royal British Legion recently launched a major drive in an effort to spark interest in the cause among the town's youngsters by holding a fun day.

The success of the fun day, which involved a race with youngsters pulling a Mini car and adults pulling a lorry, means more family events could become a reality during next year.

"The fun day was just a start, and we are looking into all sorts of youth membership at the moment," said Andy Tuzzio, the president of the Droitwich Royal British Legion, and the sub-secretary of the branch.

"For the members of the area we have a children's Christmas party every year and a family disco on Christmas Eve.

"With the Christmas holidays coming up it starts to get busy, but we will look at putting on more events during the first part of next year."

Mr Tuzzio said the branch hoped to organise more family events next summer, including fun days and barbecues.

The start of the recruitment initiative was marked on Saturday, November 8, with an open day at the Legion's headquarters to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

The event, plsced the emphasis on fun, with the lorry and Mini pull race, fire works and a disco in the evening.

The night-time disco raised £113, but the final figure of the event will not be known until all sponsors and donations for the day are received.
