A TODDLER batting against cancer is all set to jet off to a dream holiday in America thanks to the generosity of Worcester folk.

More than £3,000 has been raised for three-year-old Jordan Gibson, of Elmdale Road, Claines, which means that if all goes well with his chemotherapy treatments he and his family will be flying out to Florida in September 2004.

In January of this year, Jordan was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukaemia, a cancer which affects the immune system.

Judy Tonks, Jordan's grandmother, said his consultant has already told them that if the treatment goes well there should not be a problem with the family taking him away.

"There is now going to be a need for intensive treatment," said Mrs Tonks.

"By the time July comes around he will have finished that intensive treatment and will then have daily treatment of chemotherapy which will be taken orally.

"He should then be ready for the break."

She said the family have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Worcester and that they have appreciated all donations, however large or small.

"We had a visit last week from somebody who wants to give the use of their villa in Florida, which is just 10 minutes from Disney World.

"The offer absolutely blew us away. It really has touched us."

Firefighters from Worcester station's Blue Watch, who began the fund-raising, originally hoped to raise £900 to send Jordan to DisneyLand Paris.

"We were aiming for £900 which would have paid for accommodation at a cheaper time of the year," said firefighter Martin Lewis.

"But we have raised in excess of £3,000, which is fantastic."

"Blue Watch has now brought the fund-raising to a close but we would like to thank everyone for their response."
