TO mark the centenary of the collection of the first folk songs in England by Cecil Sharp, which helped launch a revival of English folk music, the compiler's achievements will be celebrated at Huntingdon Hall.
Ashley Hutchings and members of the Albion Band will perform tonight in As I Cycled Out on a May Morning, which will showcase important folk songs, accompanied by Ashley's narration, as Sharp.
The words will be taken from Sharp's diaries and books, interspersed with music from the four-piece band.
Ashley has been compared to Sharp, who founded the English Folk Song Society, as he has tried to make folk accessible to a wider audience.
He was involved in the formation of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and the Albion Band.
As I Cycled Out on a May Morning starts at 8pm. Box office: 01905 611427.
