SAILING at the Common Road club last Sunday was an all day affair when the eventual victor took home the Charity Trophy having taken part in three races.
A combination of a long and tricky course set by Ian Edwards and a strong blustery wind from the east that came severely tested the 11 boats on the water.
Each race was punctuated by collisions with subsequent penalties having to be sailed.
Rob Berger, in a Comet, twice had to suffer a soaking before he got to grips with the conditions and this ensured that the lead would change hands continuously throughout each race.
However, despite great efforts by all of the crews with racing very close at times, Ian Haywood always managed to have taken the lead at the end of each race. He is enjoying a real purple patch at present.
It was left to Pickford, Middleton, Paul and Ann Baylis and Green to fight it out for second spot with the former claiming second spot ahead of the high performing Haywood.
Arden SC - Sunday results (First race): 1 Jane Smee; 2 Andrew Potts. (2nd): 1 Nial Campbell; A Potts; 3 Richard Drinkwater; 4 Ralph Evans; 5 Alan Salerman.
