RIDING together as a mixed team in the prestigious Duo Normand Two-Up Time Trial on a sporting 54K course at Marigny near St Lo, Brian Newton and Arja Scarsbrook achieved a credible 16th place.

A field of 427 teams, including teams from 22 countries and many from Eng-land, including the pair of Evesham Wheelers first-timers, enjoyed a Tour de France type atmosphere.

Sunday's club run was blessed with good weather conditions. In a well-disciplined line-out they took a route in the direction of Alcester, Great Alne and Snitterfield through the quiet lanes and took a stop at Wootton Wawen.

Here the group met up with the second steadier paced run led by Gordon Taylor who had taken a similar route.

The return was a more direct route through Welford, Barton, Cleeve Prior and The Littletons.

This week's run is to Hanbury and will be led by Carol Hall meeting in the High Street at 9am.

The club will also be represented by Martyn Cole, Steve McGrath and Adrian Main in the League of Veterans Racing Cyclists 36-mile road race at Tamworth.

CYCLE Stuff rider Steve Walton was in action again last weekend with yet another hill climb.

He travelled to Reading for the Timetrial .co.uk event staged on the nasty 1-7 climb of Streatley Hill - a 1000m ascent.

The local ace finished sixth in a time of two minutes and 45 seconds. Winner Danny Axford (Oxford University) clocked 2.28.

Sunday's club run was a slightly less strenuous affair. Leaving Evesham, the nine riders led by Stuart Smith rode out through Badsey and Bretforton before climbing up Aston Bank and on to the high ground above Chipping Campden.

They then headed out past Broadway Tower and Snowshill before taking in the fast descent of Stanway Hill and on to Winchcombe for coffee.

The return took a far flatter route via Greet, Gretton, Alderton and Beckford before reaching the quiet lanes around Bredon to Elmley and Hinton before reaching Evesham having covered 46 miles.
