EVESHAM Junior men's squad took two quads and a double to the Worcester Autumn Head of the River.

In the first division, the J15 quad of Rob Davies, Tom Walker, Peter Bird and Marcus Hutching, coxed by Sam Churchill, impressed many on the bank with their flowing technique and consistent power.

They passed several crews on their way to a ten-second victory over Royal Shrew-sbury School.

The J18 double of Tim Messent and Chris Sumner narrowly missed out when finishing second to Stourport.

The second division was led off by lightweight international Matt Beechey from Worcester who set a blistering pace for all to follow.

The J16 quad of Serguei Phoursa, Tom Most, Nick Symonds and Ali Gregory showed great composure in an extremely competitive field, and won their event in the second fastest time on the day, beating Royal -School by one second.

More significant was their margin of 20 seconds over Kings School Worcester, who were national champions for their age group last year.

The new coaching team of John Rose and Alf Symonds were delighted with the result, which sets a firm foundation for an excellent year ahead.
