ORGANISERS of this year's Bewdley Festival are delighted with the results so far - and have been inundated with people wishing to join their mailing list.

Bewdley Festival spokeswoman Carole Swingler said the festival - which started with An Evening with Barry Norman on Friday - had gone off with a bang and added many of the events had already sold out.

"We're delighted with how it's going and we thought Barry Norman was thoroughly good," she said.

"People kept coming up to me and saying 'I wish I could invite him round for dinner' and he had a good audience and good questions which he handled so well."

She added Saturday's family fun day in and around Bewdley Museum had been a sunny success and also praised the Maggiore Piano Trio's concert and Adrian Sumner's art lecture. "Our art talk was extremely interesting and Maddy Prior was lovely and we were delighted with the 18th century orchestra."

She added she was particularly looking forward to seeing jazz sensation Stacey Kent perform this evening and hearing former That's Life star Esther Rantzen speak tomorrow.

The event finishes with a party night featuring Bewdley band Tom the Frop on Saturday.
