A BEWDLEY actor has proved the show must go on - performing the lead role in an energetic musical despite chronic back pains.

Jonathan Darby, who featured in last week's Shuttle/Times and News when he took the role of Fred/Petruchio in Worcester Operatic Dramatic Society's production of Kiss Me Kate at Malvern Festival Theatre, was unable to stand when he woke up last Wednesday morning.

However, he soldiered on, despite his lingering back pains, and said the show's opening night on Tuesday was a great success.

"It's gone really well so far.

"The show went on - there are a couple of bits where I'm supposed to pick people up which we had to drop but otherwise I managed to keep going."

The 37-year-old added he did not know what had caused his ailment, but did not think it was anything to do with the show.
