A PRIVATE collector in New York splashed out nearly £3,000 on a set of drumsticks given to a woman working for a Kidderminster vehicle hire firm 30 years ago.

The sticks were given to Nadia Kemp for her young son in the early 1970s by John Bonham, of the legendary Led Zeppelin.

And they were snapped up for £2,880 at a rock 'n' roll memorabilia auction at Sotheby's in London - £1,000 more than the expected price.

Former Stourport resident Sean Kemp, 41, now of Manchester, had had the drumsticks since the early 1970s.

Bonham, who died nearly 22 years ago, gave them to Mr Kemp's mother - who worked for Foley Self-Drive - for her young son, a Led Zeppelin fan.

Sotheby's rock 'n' roll memorabilia expert Stephen Maycock said: "There aren't may drummers who would have commanded that sort of price."

The top selling article in the sale, which boasted pieces from the likes of Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Queen and the Sex Pistols, was a signed copy of The Beatles' Revolver album, which fetched £21,600.
