AFTER eight successful qualifying rounds, Broadway's Mail on Sunday ladies' team's hopes of a trip to Spain were dashed after a play-off.
Manchester's Marriott Worsley Park Hotel & Country Club was the destination for the six-strong squad, their band of loyal caddies and supporters to take part in the UK Finals of the National Golf Club Classic.
More than 18,000 golfers from 3,019 teams entered the event and just eight men's and eight women's teams survived to take their places at the UK Finals.
Broadway were drawn to play Tytherington from Macclesfield who, like their opponents, were first-timers to the Finals.
Players were faced with gale-force winds, greens were shaved to resemble and play like polished glass and pin positions were at their most challenging.
Tytherington snatched the first match on the 16th but Broadway trounced the second game on the 15th.
The remaining two matches were decided on the 17th with both sides claiming a victory leaving a play-off to decide the champions.
It took a nail-biting three extra holes before Tytherington ended a gallant Broadway challenge to secure their team's tickets to Spain.
Captain Jen Doran said: "What a wonderful journey this has been. So many emotions, such fantastic team spirit and such memories!"
Doran was joined by Linda Carruthers, Sue Edwards, Lin Everitt, Pauline O'Hagan and Denise Parker on the club's memorable journey.
