THE Evening News reported on plans for the redevelopment of the old hospital site (Monday, September 29) as a campus for University College Worcester.
It was stated that there will be 3,000 additional students and 400 new residential places. So where will the other 2,600 live?
If the population of Worcester is some 100,000, then this means that about one house in 40 in the city will need to be given over to student accommodation.
This is in addition to those - mainly in St John's - which are already used as student accommodation.
Alternatively, the equivalent of one new house will need to be built in Worcester for every 40 that currently exist.
I am not against the development, but none of the plans so far seem to address how the new students' accommodation needs will be met, or what the effects will be on the housing needs of other citizens.
KELVIN HARD,
Worcester.
