MORE than 120 singers from 19 different choral groups raised the roof at Pershore Abbey to support South Worcestershire's St Richard's Hospice during the world's biggest simultaneous singing event.

The performance was part of the Voices for Hospices 2003 Hospices in Harmony event where choral societies and church choirs took part in events around the world, and dedicated to increasing awareness of the work of local hospices as well as raising urgently needed funds to ensure the care they give continues.

Professional soloists who gave their services were Christopher Foster (bass), Yvonne Seymour (soprano), Jo Dwyer (contralto) and Robert Forbes (tenor). Abbey organist Michael Pegg played and Andrea Calladine conducted.

Event organiser John Gosney said: "We want to thank all the singers who took part and in particular the soloists, conductor and organist. They all made it such a marvellous event and it is wonderful to have raised nearly £2,500 to help the work of St Richard's Hospice."
