Bert Coleman BEM gave an insight into bird behaviour at the Kidderminster branch's September meeting.
His talk included temperature control, displaying techniques, why moorhens have many chicks, how herons clean their greasy beaks, the result of a sparrow's sand bath, and whether an oyster-catcher is a "banger" (bangs cockle/mussel shells to open them) or a "snipper" (snips the shell's valve to open it).
The September outdoor meeting was to Chelmarsh marsh and reservoir, where 30 bird species were identified, including kingfisher, reed-warbler and common tern.
The October indoor meeting, at 7.30pm on Wednesday at St Oswald's Church Centre, Kidderminster, will feature Mike Wilkes, FRPS, on Wildlife of the Galapagos and the Mindo Cloud Forest.
Anyone interested in wildlife, or birdlife and conservation in general, are always welcome at meetings.
The next outdoor meeting is on Sunday, November 2, to Rhayader and to Gigrin Farm to observe red kites.
