Evesham Utd 1, Gresley Rvrs 1

INDERPAUL Khela's last-gasp leveller was nothing more than Evesham deserved against the Western Division's form side.

Gresley, who had taken all their ten points from their previous four league outings and also won two FA cup ties in the process, were a confident side and took the lead after nine minutes when Liam Hebberd netted.

However, United, with Sean Flynn patrolling the midfield, more than matched their Derbyshire opponents although it was a shame that woeful finishing threatened to see them lose for a third time at Common Road this season.

Shaun Pratt and Khela were the two wayward culprits although neither player's chances were clear-cut.

Hebberd shot inches wide for Rovers who would have doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time had Tim Clarke not pulled off a fabulous save to paw aside a header from Steve Lenagh.

The home custodian then hurled himself to his right to keep out a follow-up shot that was also destined for the net.

Pratt again wasted excellent foraging play on a couple of occasions - a lack of fitness perhaps the excuse, while United's final ball was also lacking as Hebberd's goal seemed more and more likely to prove the clincher.

Lenagh twice came close to making it 2-0, while Andy Smith's thumping 35-yarder flew a foot wide of Dale Belford's goal.

The Gresley keeper then blocked Mark Shepherd's shot on the turn 16 minutes from time - either side of the arrivals of substitutes Paul Oakey and Nathan Jukes.

The latter's corner saw Marc Burrow denied by Belford before Smith's stoppage time cross and Shepherd's headed flick paved the way for Khela to sneak in and steer his first goal of the season into the corner.
