BLEDISLOE SUCCESS: The Bledisloe Plate, recently awarded to Willersey, was presented to the parish council chairman, Maurice Andrews, recently by the Council for the Protection of Rural England chairman, Judge Gabriel Hutton.

The village has now won the Best Kept Village Cup nine times and the Plate twice and those villagers assembled for the event were congratulated by Judge Hutton.

Maurice Andrews replied and thanked all the residents for making the success possible.

YOUNG PEOPLE'S PROJECT: The launch of the project went off well and 25 youngsters, with many parents, turned up to taste the facilities being provided for them.

The new equipment was much enjoyed and two sports leaders from Young Gloucestershire and other volunteers came along to lend a hand.

VILLAGE HALL: There will be a management committee meeting, followed by the AGM, next Wednesday.

MOBILE POLICE STATION: The next visit of the mobile police station will be on Wednesday, October 29, between 3.15pm and 4.15pm. It will be stationed near the pool.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: All residents have been reminded, through the Church and Village News, of the village Neighbourhood Watch scheme and a list of the volunteer co-ordinators has been circulated.

Residents are urged to keep in touch with their area co-ordinator and to use the police information point located at the Village Stores.

FOOTLIGHTS: After a break, the Willersey Footlights are getting ready to resume activities.

The AGM was held in the village hall last Friday.

Anyone interested in joining, either as a performer or backstage member, are invited to contact either Neville Jelfs (858351) or Maurice Andrews (858448).

CANCER RESEARCH UK: After many years' success the annual house-to-house collection of Willersey and Saintbury will this year take place next week.

Many volunteers always come forward to assist and should there be others who would like to help, Jane Hammond (853732) would be pleased to hear from them.

WEDNESDAY CLUB: The new season's programme started at the end of last month with the AGM, when Miss Helen Rhoden was re-elected chairman, Mrs Rose Baker, honorary treasurer and the current committee members were re-elected en bloc with the addition of three new members.

A most successful past year was reported upon by the chairman and treasurer.

NATIONAL CHILDRENS' HOMES: A coffee morning, with the usual cakes, produce, bric-a-brac stalls and raffle, will be held in the village hall on Saturday, October 25, from 10.30am to noon.

SPONSORED WALK/RIDE: The walk/ride in aid of the Historic Churches Trust, held last month, was, again, a great success.

Already over £250 will have been raised with more to come in.

WILLERSEY MUSIC: As the result of the tea party held at Chestnut House by kind invitation of Mr and Mrs David Field, £442.38 was raised to promote future music events in Willersey.
