TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: The Townswomen's Guild members met for their October meeting on a typical autumn morning.

The chairman reported that Mesdames Bennett and Martin were in hospital and that Mrs Machin had had a fall and broken her ankle.

She announced that, as from November 4 when St Wulstan's Hall will no longer be available in the mornings, all future meetings would be held on the first Tuesday afternoon in the month, from 2pm to 4pm.

Any members worried about walking home in the dark would be offered lifts.

Mrs Lockhart reported that last month's wine and nibbles evening had resulted in £628.50 being raised towards this year's charity, MS.

She thanked all who had supported and helped at this event, which had been very enjoyable.

Particular thanks was expressed to Mesdames Meller, Dallimore, Herbert and Horstmann for the crafts display, raffle, directing and accompanying the Guided Lilies respectively.

A reminder was given that completed Christmas boxes must be handed in at the November meeting and thanks went to Mrs James's mother for again knitting so many hats etc.

Future outings include the Christmas lunch, on December 4, at the Railway Inn, Defford (£8.50), and a performance of Love Letters on January 30 at Huntingdon Hall, Worcester, as well as a Cheltenham theatre visit, on February 26, to see the Russian ice show.

Bookings were also taken for the PODs Wassail evenings, on December 8, 9 and 10, in St Andrew's, costing £8.

Mrs Loach reported on the Literature Appreciation Group's recent meeting when members discussed A Passage to India by E M Forster.

The scrabble group is to meet on Friday evening and skittles on the second Tuesday of each month, at 10.15am.

After coffee, Mr D Way gave an interesting and informative talk on Do We Speak English?

Mr Loach gave the vote of thanks. The sales table raised £17.35.

The next meeting is due to be held on Tuesday, November 4, in St Wulstan's Hall, at 2pm, when Mrs C Weaver will give an illustrated talk on Springs and Fountains of the Malvern Hills.

The sales table will be Christmas goods.

New members and visitors are always welcome.
