Evesham 2, Barlaston 3

TOO many errors gifted Barlaston an unlikely victory in Saturday's Coaching Solutions League clash.

Barlaston made the most of their chances while Evesham, who are playing as individuals rather than as a team, were left to reflect on their shortcomings.

They began brightly and soon put the visitors under pressure only to find the Barlaston goalkeeper in top form.

However, as in previous matches, early dominance gave way to poor concentration and as the half progressed, too many individual errors crept in.

At the back the marking relaxed and only Neil Sollis provided any resistance until the deadlock was broken when poor marking allowed the visitors to virtually pass the ball past the stranded Damon Keyte.

Evesham struggled to pull themselves together but, shortly before half-time, Simon Chatterley scrambled the ball over the line.

Given their performance, Evesham could consider themselves fortunate to be level but they still came out and produced a flat second half display.

Even though they began to dominate midfield, every time Barlaston went on the attack they looked likely to score. Two soft goals gave the hosts a mountain to climb in the final 15 minutes when, despite throwing extra men forward and having territorial advantage, they squandered chances through selfish and careless play.

Seb Seneque hit home a short corner and, for a second successive match, a last-gasp equaliser looked on the cards when Evesham were awarded a penalty stroke.

Unfortunately, Nick Lloyd put the flick wide and the chance of a draw had gone.

Evesham's season needs to kick-start at Redditch on Saturday although results mean that the High School based squad has yet to fall too far behind the early leaders.

Barlaston II 0, Evesham II 6

AFTER being frustrated by some dogged defending and poor finishing, the second string found their goal touch to record an emphatic win.

A surging run from midfielder Matt Allen opened the scoring before Stuart Harris and Rob Leighton, who both scored twice, and Paul Martin completed a sparkling six-hit show.
