ABANDONED baby experts have been called in to help police officers in the county trace the mother who abandoned her six-week-old baby in the toilets of a Kidderminster shopping centre.

Concerns are growing for the welfare of the mother, who abandoned tiny Isobel in a black holdall bag in a toilet cubicle of the Roland Hill Shopping Centre last Friday.

Police in North Worcestershire have called in the help of officers from the National Crime Faculty to help with the investigation.

They have worked on a number of cases where babies have been abandoned and will be speaking to officers to review the case.

CCTV pictures of Isobel's mother, taken just moments before she abandoned the baby, were published in the Evening News on Tuesday, but her identity is still unknown.

Detective Inspector Adrian Todd, who is leading the investigation, said: "We were somewhat disappointed with the response from the CCTV stills that we issued.

"We will hopefully be getting an enhanced image of the woman from experts.

"This will hopefully give us some more information about the height and build of the woman and maybe some more details on her facial features."

He said experts at the Forensic Science Service have taken blood samples from baby Isobel and will be dividing the DNA to see if they can identify who is either her mother or father.

"It is sad to think that this young child could grow up not knowing who her parents are or when it is her birthday," he added.

"If the mother of Isobel is reading this, our aim is still to reunite mother and baby and we desperately need to hear from her."

n Anyone with any about baby Isobel is asked to contact Kidderminster police on 08457 444888.
