VILLAGERS from Stock and Bradley need to find about £100,000 if they are to carry out vital work on their village hall.

Despite a great deal of attention lavished on the 68-year-old building, time is now beginning to take its toll.

The combination of the ageing process and new Government legislation means that unless immediate drastic action is taken, the villagers could lose the hall as soon as this winter.

The money is needed to upgrade and replace items such as the central heating system, kitchen floor and other equipment.

And in order to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, the hall needs to improve its accessibility and facilities.

This will include proper entrance ramps, a hearing loop, tactile signage and many other features to make the hall more user-friendly for everyone.

The Village Hall Fundraising Group asked residents for their views on what facilities they wanted to see and what events they would like to take part in at a recent meeting.

A fund-raising fun quiz will take place on Saturday, November 29, in the hall from 7.30pm.

There will also be some top nosh for people to enjoy and beer and wine will be on sale.

Teams of up to six people can take part to win prizes and tickets cost £10 per person. To book tickets, call Andrew or Gail Worthington on 821704 or Cliff Metcalfe on 821437.
