THREE little letters are causing a large amount of confusion in Alcester.

The recently formed action group Alcester Community against Tetra has adopted ACT as its acronym.

But Alcester Churches Together uses ACT as its abbreviation.

At a recent town council meeting, Alcester's deputy mayor Chris Gough said he had received complaints about Alcester Community against Tetra's decision to 'hijack' the abbreviation ACT.

He said: "I have had complaints from residents about Alcester Community against Tetra decision to take the same three letters.

"People do get confused when the same three letters are used. I would have preferred if they hadn't hijacked ACT."

But Alcester Churches Together chairman Jan Trory said she did not think sharing ACT would be a massive problem.

She said: "When I heard about it I thought it was a shame but I don't think of it as being a huge problem.

"Unless something happened that became particularly political and people were getting confused it won't be a huge problem - people are civilised in Alcester and we'll learn to live together."

Alcester Community against Tetra said it had no idea that they had used the same abbreviation.

Town councillor Nina Knapman, who is helping the Tetra campaign, said: "I know the group was thinking about using the name Residents Against Tetra (RAT) but changed it because it didn't think it was appropriate."
