A SNOOKER player from Rednal has made the highest break in the 84-year history of the Bromsgrove and District Snooker League.

Stuart Watson compiled a magnificent 137 total clearance in a one-frame match during Barnt Green A's 5-0 victory at Bromsgrove Labour Club B.

The 27-year-old's break beats the previous best of 136, made by Kevin Franklin playing for Clent in 1991.

Stuart elected to break after winning the toss against Malcolm Reilly on Tuesday, October 7. Then, following a mini safety exchange, he potted a long red and cleared the table.

When Stuart reached the 60 mark, everybody in the club stopped to watch and even serving drinks was put on hold.

It is his first century break in a one-frame encounter, despite 50 in other competitions and many more in practise.

He said: "I didn't feel that much pressure, I just felt at home. I have been playing brilliantly in practise, but not taking my practise form on to the match table. It's given me a bit of confidence. I want to beat it myself now."

Stuart, who has made a 146 in practise but never a maximum, is currently competing on the national tour for amateurs in his ultimate quest to turn professional. The top four from the tour get that chance.
