A TOWN man who used a pool cue as a weapon during an attack outside his home has been given nine months detention.

Jonathan Rudge "snapped" after victim Lewis Baker complained to Rudge's mother that her son had beaten up his friend, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Earlier the same evening, Rudge punched and kicked another victim, Daniel Bird, after following him out of a Bromsgrove pub.

Rudge, aged 20, of Bewell Head, Sidemoor, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and assault causing actual bodily harm.

He first became violent outside the pub in Worcester Road on June 14, said Graham Cliff, prosecuting.

Upset by previous comments he considered insulting, he punched Mr Bird about the head and kicked him as he lay on the floor. He suffered bruising, a cut behind the ear and a sore jaw.

Rudge walked home but Mr Baker followed him and complained to his mother about her son's violence towards Mr Bird.

The defendant then emerged armed with a pool cue which he used to hit Mr Baker over the head with, said Mr Cliff.

Mr Baker fell to the ground bleeding from a gashed forehead. He needed hospital treatment.

Rudge told police that at an earlier party Mr Bird had laughed at him. He tried to apologise in the pub but Rudge thought he was taking the mickey.

Describing the cue attack, Rudge said: "I just flipped. It was built-up anger, I suppose."

Brett Stevenson, defending, said Rudge had no previous convictions, was mild-mannered and had a deep love of music.

Adverse comments had been made by some people because of the way he dressed and he "snapped" after drinking too much. At the house he was concerned about his mother's welfare before using the cue.

Judge Andrew Geddes told Rudge he had indulged in "a disgraceful piece of behaviour" for which custody was the only penalty.
