DROITWICH Spa boss Kevin Blaber is running out of fit players as his side tries to force its way up the league table.

Injury hit Spa, currently third bottom of Midland Combination division two, had five of their regular starting eleven missing for last Saturday's 0-0 home draw with Tipton Town Reserves and only had one fit substitute. And to make matters worse, striker Greg Thomas limped off just five minutes into the game.

Of 17 players, including new signing Rob Dufty, the manager has just 12 available.

Andy Keenahan has been missing for two weeks with a knee injury, Ben Evans has a groin problem while Andy Pheasant is also missing with a foot injury.

Blaber said: "We are still struggling with injuries and illness. We are down to the bare bones at the moment."

Dean Wise had Droitwich's best chance, flashing a shot wide from a tight angle and Nick West was a constant threat in the air.

At the other end, Tipton forced a fine reflex save from Simon Williams and saw a shot rebound off the post.

Spa travel to Handsworth United this Saturday in the second round of the Challenge Vase (2.45pm). Spa had a bye in the first round.

Droitwich Spa A put in a disappointing performance in losing 2-1 at reigning Worcester Premier League champions Hallow.

Jake Elvins pulled a goal back as the visitors slumped to their second defeat of the season.
