FORMER Baptist chapel with bats in its roof would be demolished to make way for two detached houses under an outline plan currently before Malvern Hills District Council.
Kempsey Parish Council have no objection to a change of use, but want to see the bats protected and would rather see the Church Street building retained and converted into living accommodation.
Planning chairman David Harrison said the village already had all the houses it would need up to 2011, except for affordable housing.
Opportunity
"This would be an ideal opportunity for affordable two bedroom starter homes," he said.
Kim Rowswell was worried that the proposed houses would loom over the existing "low-level pretty little cottages" and spoil the street scene.
"Any development has got to be in keeping with the surrounding area," she said.
