A 56-YEAR-old caravan site manager was found dead in his car with a hose pipe attached to his vehicle's exhaust, an inquest was told.

John Morris, a manager of The Springs, Salters Lane, Lower Moor, Pershore, had left his home on the evening on Thursday, September 18, to clear his head after a disagreement with his wife.

The argument was over the possibility of him being transferred to another site, said Worcestershire Coroner Victor Round.

In a statement read out by the coroner, Mr Morris' wife Janice said she rang the police early the next morning when she became concerned for her husband's welfare.

Mrs Morris said she spoke to her husband late Thursday night and he told her he was in a lay-by in the Malvern Hills, and when they spoke again later that night he seemed "very calm" and said "don't wait up."

"But I did wait up and rang the police when he did not return," she said.

"He never talked about taking his own life. I did not believe he had gone to the Malvern Hills.

"The Springs was his baby."

A police vehicle arrived at Mrs Morris' home on Friday, September 19, after Mr Morris was discovered dead in his car at 7.15am at the caravan park, said Mr Round.

The coroner said there was a suicide note in the car. Mr Morris died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Mr Round, at the Stourport-on-Severn coroners court, recorded a verdict that Mr Morris took his own life.
