POLAR medals that belonged to a Malvern-born explorer were sold for more than £10,000 at auction.
The bronze and silver George V and George VI medals had been awarded to George Hamilton Smith, who was born in Malvern in 1899.
They were given to him for his service aboard the Discovery, the ship which transported Scott to the Antarctic.
The medals were auctioned at Sotheby's on Friday and had been expected to sell for around £8,000.
James Morton of Morton and Eden Ltd, the auctioneers holding the medals, said: "We were very pleased with the result."
