PLANS to scrap another phone box in Stourport have received a unanimous thumbs down from councillors.
BT wants to remove the kiosk at Windermere Way as part of a nationwide programme of cuts sparked by booming mobile phone use.
But at its meeting last week Stourport Town Council said the proposed closure - which follows confirmation a box in Harold Davies Drive will be scrapped within the next few months - would hit vulnerable people without mobiles or even landlines.
The nearest phone box to the under-threat Windermere Way facility is 211 metres away in Minster Road and there will be a public consultation period until October 29 for people to contact the town council with any objections.
BT has also confirmed a kiosk on the corner of Sutton Park Road and Stourport Road in Kidderminster will close.
However, the telecoms giant has put on ice plans to scrap a red phone box in Westbourne Street, Bewdley, and a kiosk in Redstone Lane, Stourport.
The company will now consult with Bewdley Town Council and Stourport Town Council after objections to the move.
