WITH reference to the ongoing saga of the Wyre Piddle bypass, I was under the illusion that a bypass had two main functions.
1) to ease the weight of traffic through a built up area making life more pleasurable for residents and 2) to speed up journey times for the motorist by removing a bottle neck.
Now for which of these two was the Wyre bypass built? Due to the ingratitude of Wyre residents I must assume it is for the motorist. You know the fleets of white mini buses carrying allegedly illegal farm workers down from Birmingham to Evesham and surrounding areas. Or perhaps for Stella to enjoy a speedy shopping trip to Worcester as I'm 99% sure I saw her on the bypass the other day. But now, oh dear, an accident, and calls for the speed limit to be lowered. What tosh. Haven't the anti speed brigade got enough limits, red tarmac, speed bumps, traffic cameras etc. Traffic calming, its enough to drive any normal motorist into a frustrated and helpless wreck.
Incidentally, when will the bypass be closed for the building of the omitted cycle lane?
I thought these were compulsory nowadays. I was thinking of cycling on the old road through Wyre but upon hearing of the proposed barbed wire and machine gun posts for each bridge, decided it wouldn't be very pleasant.
Ah well, think I'll leave them to it, and catch the train to Evesham.
