A BRAVE Alcester man will be jumping out of an aeroplane to raise funds for a new classroom at a town school.

James Watts, a former pupil at Our Lady's Primary School, will be skydiving on October 18 to raise money for the new £140,000 classroom at the St Faith's Road school.

The school has just completed the building of one new reception class, opened by The Right Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Birmingham, and is now on track for its next. It is looking to replace its only mobile classroom with a permanent building for Years 1 and 2.

But because Our Lady's is voluntary aided, it needs to raise 10 per cent of the total cost of the project - about £14,000.

But the school is on its way having already raised about £4,000 through various events organised through the Parent Teacher Association.

And to add to the collection, Mr Watt's employers have pledged to match fund anything that he gets through sponsorship.

Headteacher Sylvia Collins said: "James is very brave and we're all very proud of him - we'll be looking forward to his spectacular feat."

When the permanent building is finished, the mobile classroom will be used for music tuition, instead of the staff room which is used at the moment.
